Badass and bookstore are not necessarily two words you would imagine co-mingling I assume. Well maybe it’s time to alter your mindset amigo. A badass bookstore is exactly what powerHouse Arena is.

Based in Dumbo, Brooklyn, powerHouse Arena is an institution. These guys are on top of the game as both an otherworldly place to buy books and gifts as well as a cutting edge art installation space.

Walking by on Tuesday, after the storm hit, I witnessed first hand Sandy’s devastation. Water levels looked to be about 3′ high in the shop judging by debris lines left on interior fixtures. The place had been completely flooded

Tons of inventory was destroyed and the damage toll is reportedly in the tens of thousands. Tragically powerHouse does not have flood insurance and are asking for donations to get them back on their feet.
